Now in it’s fifth year, The Holiday Grooves is once again coming your way on Christmas Eve.
Originally conceived as a way to spread joy on Christmas 2020, the show evolved into The Grooves, WYEP’s weekly all-vinyl radio show. But don’t expect Andy Williams or Mariah Carey on this holiday show, which spans genres including the blues, indie rock, hip hop, R&B and disco. It’s filled with holiday surprises that host, Brian Siewiorek has found during record digs over the years.
You’ll hear holiday classics like Brenda Lee’s “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree” and The Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping” among less familiar and joyful versions of holiday standards along with original songs like Bessie Smith’s 1923 recording of “The Christmas Ball” and Grandaddy’s ode to a prog-rock pioneer on the cheeky “Alan Parsons in a Winter Wonderland”.
So, if you’re in the mood for something a little different this season, give the Holiday Grooves a listen on Christmas Eve at 6 p.m., and again on Christmas Day at 2 p.m. on WYEP.
