WYEP Remembers

This past year, we lost a number of fantastic artists who contributed greatly to music and culture. From Pittsburgh's Ahmad Jamal to the powerful Tina Turner to the remarkable Sinead O'Connor, here's a list of artists who died in 2023.

On Tuesday, Aug. 15 we remembered Robbie Robertson, who died on Aug. 9 at the age of 80.

WYEP paid tribute to Sinéad O’Connor on July 31st, 2023 at 8 PM with an hourlong tribute to her music and career.

Veteran NPR Journalist Wade Goodwyn passed away on June 8th, 2023 at the age of 63. We were fortunate to have had Wade Goodwin as our guest here in Pittsburgh in 2017. He spoke at an event at the Heinz History Center for our sister station, WESA. Earlier that day, Rosemary Welsch had Goodwyn on her show as a Guest DJ.

WYEP will pay tribute to Tina Turner on May 24, 2023, at 7 p.m. with an hourlong tribute to her music and career.

Harry Belafonte has died at the age of 96. He was an American singer, actor, and civil rights activist who had a significant impact on the entertainment industry and on American society during the 20th century.

On Monday, January 23rd, 2023 at 8:00 pm, WYEP paid tribute for one-hour to one of the signature voices of the ’60s and ’70s, featuring music from Crosby’s career with The Byrds, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and various CSNY incarnations.

Jerry Weber, the man behind the legendary Squirrel Hill record store, died Friday, Jan. 28 at the age of 73.
