Michael Franti & Spearhead, “Break Up With Everything”
Groundbreaking Michael Franti has made a 30-plus year career of making socio-political songs to several happy, sunny, jams celebrating life and love. Michael has come up with a deeply personal song that addresses breaking up with those things in life that are no longer personally serving us. The new album, “Welcome To The Family,” is due out March 28, and deals with all of the feelings of what’s happening in the world right now, and putting them to music.
Mon Rovia, “Rust”
Mon was born in Liberia into a civil war. Luckily, he escaped being a child soldier, and his music reflects his experiences with simple arrangements through folk music. “Rust” is one of those songs that will grab your attention as it begs to reflects on someone’s experience as an adopted refugee in America.
Suzanne Vega, “Speakers' Corner”
Widely regarded as one of the best singer-songwriters of the past four decades, Suzanne Vega is back with a song that dives into the issue of a “Speaker’s Corner,” and how easy it is today to speak one’s mind — without making much sense — and dealing in falsehoods without accountability. “Flying with Angels” is Vega’s first album of new material in over a decade is due out May 2. “Each song on the album takes place in an atmosphere of struggle,” says Vega. “Struggle to survive, to speak, to dominate, to win, to escape, to help someone else, or just live."
Tash Sultana, “Milk & Honey”
The summery vibe is here just in time, with loops, and a soulful reggae groove from the return of Tash Sultana. This track begs to be played loudly with the sound up and the windows down. Tash Sultana is originally from Melbourne, Australia and has performed for large crowds and festivals for over a decade.
Tunde Adebimpe, “God Knows”
TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe has announced the release of his first solo endeavor, “Thee Black Boltz” will be released on April 18. It’s the second single from his debut solo record, and with “God Knows,” Tunde captures heartbreak, a breakup, and all of the complex issues and feelings that go with it.
