What’s Spinning: Week of March 3 — Counting Crows, Hurray For The Riff Raff, Caamp

Hear new songs from Counting Crows, identify with the challenges of internet culture with a song from Hurray For The Riff Raff, and enjoy the vocals of Galactic and Irma Thomas on their song, "Where I Belong" — here's what's new in rotation on 91.3 WYEP this week.

Counting Crows, “Spaceman In Tulsa”

Counting Crows will release a new album called “Butter Miracle: The Complete Sweets!” for the first time in over a decade. The new song is about being a rock star and changing with the times, with a power pop backdrop and vibe. It's a bit of fresh air for a band best known for its hits in the 1990's.

Caamp, “Let Things Go”

The roots trio from Ohio have announced a new EP and their first song in three years. The title gives away the song, and it's a simple return to form for the band that blends folk, rock, and bits of bluegrass. It includes a simple message and reminder when facing troubled times, that at some point you have to let things go.

Galactic and Irma Thomas, “Where I Belong”

Two big names from the New Orleans music scene have team upped for an album together, “Audience With The Queen.” Galactic provides the groove and “The Soul Queen of New Orleans,” Irma Thomas, takes over sounding as fresh as ever on this reflective track about identity and longevity in the music world. There are eight new cuts that highlight Irma’s vocals, and her signature sound.

Fontaines D.C., “It's Amazing To Be Young”

The Irish band has released their first music since last August’s excellent effort, “Romance. “It’s Amazing To Be Young” was written with guitarist Carlos O’Connell’s child around and covers the feeling of hope and excitement that a child can bring, even when things don’t seem so bright in this world. Fontaines D.C. has a busy summer planned after wrapping up their U.S. tour they head to Manchester, New Castle, and London for some large outdoor events.

Hurray For The Riff Raff, “Pyramid Scheme”

Alynda Segarra aka Hurray For The Riff Raff has shared their first new single, “Pyramid Scheme.” The song’s subject matter deals with artists struggles with surviving in the age of Digital Service Providers (DSPs), social media and the part of the internet that artists must deal with that, according to Segarra, can be destructive and alienating for people that are trying to create art. Phil Cook, Meg Duffy, and producer/musician Brad Cook assist on this new single.
