Look, I know these two songs are vastly different, but listen to the first couple seconds of Seth Avett’s new Greg Brown cover and tell me it doesn’t make you think of @phish playing “Maze.”

They’re two great songs and you’ll hear em both around 8:20 on @WYEP.
“Magnolia Blues” is a great new song from @adiavictoria. It kind of sounds like “Flower” by @thelittleidiot. I wonder if there’s a historical reason for this or something. Feels like there might be.

I really like the song “Chapstick” by @COIN. I also really like @ChapStick. I also really like @lizzo and her song “Juice.” FWIW, I don’t drink a ton of juice.

Vote stretch if you think I’m nuts and hear them both around 8:20 on @WYEP 📻
Sir Paul McCartney wrote some dang inspirational songs.
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) January 21, 2022
Ever hear @phish’s “Army of One?” Kinda sorta sounds a bit like @PaulMcCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed.”
Maybe they should play em together on stage.

Stretch = Funk that, you’re crazy
Catch = Wow, that’s actually kinda funked up
The Pittsburgh band @bikini_islands always make me smile. Recently, it was because they reminded me of an old Love and Rockets tune!

Hear these songs on @WYEP at 8:20 and vote! 👙 🏝🦎 ❤️ 🚀
Stretch or Catch! Daft Punk's Digital Love sounds a whole lot like Earth Wind and Fire's September.
— liz felix! (@minimumblues) November 5, 2021
If you don't agree, it's a stretch. If I'm totally right, it's a catch!
I heard this @joshritter song called “Rumors” the other day and part of it sounded just a little bit familiar. Maybe it was just all the “Love Potion #9” I was imbibing…
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) October 22, 2021
Hear them both and let me know what you think around 8:20 this morning on @WYEP.
Filling in for Joey today, and I'm going with what (I think) is a pretty obvious catch on today's Stretch or Catch.
— liz felix! (@minimumblues) October 8, 2021
Sam Smith's "Stay With Me"… is this not the same song as Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down"?
If yes, that's a catch! If not… stretch. Vote!
The nerds were certainly smart (and kinda creepy), but not very original.
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) September 17, 2021
Doesn’t the theme to “Revenge Of The Nerds” sound like The Kinks’ “(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman?”

Do @thebeatles influence everything?
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) September 10, 2021
When I heard @offspring singing a new song called “Why Don’t You Get A Job?” back in 1999, I thought it sounded kinda like “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.”
Hear them both around 8:20 on @WYEP (and thanks to @ShanLJoy for the suggestion).
I guess it’s time to throw @GretaVanFleet under the bus.
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) August 27, 2021
Yeah, we’ve all thought they ooze the essence of @ledzeppelin in a generic way, but I’d argue that “Highway Tune” is pretty dang close to “The River.”
Can’t really feel too bad for Zep, though. They’re legendary stealers.
I'm filling in for @MorningJoey today, which means I get to play Stretch or Catch! I think I've got this one in the bag… take a listen to Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" and Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life."
— liz felix! (@minimumblues) August 20, 2021
Stretch = nope, two distinct songs
Catch = there's a lawsuit brewing here
Filling on on @WYEP's Morning Mix this morning, and we're playing Stretch or Catch. The Beatles reused the drum pattern from their 1964 song What You're Doing on 1966's Tomorrow Never Knows. Am I being nitpicky to call this out? Stretch=no big deal to recycle it, catch=nailed it
— Mike Sauter (@mike913) August 13, 2021
I was walking out of the studio after my show the other day and caught the end of “Smile” – a new song by @TheValerieJune – that kinda reminded me of an old one from The Noisettes.

Hear em both around 8:20 on @WYEP and let me know if I’m just hearing things!

Hear em both at 8:20 on @WYEP and let me know what you think!
Nirvana got a ton of comparisons to the Pixies when Nevermind came out in 1991. It makes sense, but I also remember reading that Kurt Cobain said he essentially ripped off Boston for “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) July 23, 2021
Does it sound like “More Than a Feeling??” Let me know!
I was shuffling songs in the whip last week when I heard a @bellesglasgow song that really threw me off.
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) July 16, 2021
I was convinced it was a cover of Edgar Winter’s “Free Ride!”
Lemme know what you think and hear the songs together on @WYEP this morning at 8:20.
I’ve been thinking about this one for a couple years now.
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) July 9, 2021
Doesn’t the intro to The Raconteurs “Somedays (I Don’t Feel Like Trying)” sound kinda like Skynyrd’s “Tuesday’s Gone?”
Hear ‘em both around 8:20am on @WYEP. #WYEPStretchOrCatch
Gotta do it. Filling in for @MorningJoey for @WYEP's Stretch or Catch: Nirvana's Come As You Are and Killing Joke's Eighties. Similar enough to be a catch? Or am I stretching a bit?
— Mike Sauter (@mike913) July 2, 2021
Lots of people have lots of feelings about the music of @ledzeppelin – just ask the guys from Spirit.
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) June 18, 2021
Did Zeppelin rip off their song “Taurus” when they made “Stairway to Heaven?” Maybe!
Hear both songs this morning at 8:20 on #WYEPStretchOrCatch!

Kinda. Sorta. Let me know what you think and hear them both on @WYEP.
I already know the answer to this one, but I’ll ask anyway…
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) May 21, 2021

— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) May 14, 2021
There’s no denying that @radiohead are a groundbreaking band, but “Karma Police” is pretty close to “Sexy Sadie.”
Whatcha think?#WYEPStretchOrCatch
I bet @rodstewart is a fan of Clarence “Frogman” Henry. It’s the only way to explain the “wooo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo’s” on his song “Some Guys Have All The Luck.”
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) May 7, 2021
Hear the songs on @WYEP at 8:20 and vote! #WYEPStretchOrCatch

They’re both great songs so lemme know what you think on #WYEPStretchOrCatch!
I think Ray Parker Jr. was on some new drugs when he came up with the theme song to “Ghostbusters.”
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) April 23, 2021
That riff sounds eerily similar to @HueyLewisNews’s “I Want a New Drug” from the previous year.
Thanks to @ShanLJoy for this #WYEPStretchOrCatch suggestion! Happy Movie Day!
When I first head Zach Bryan’s “Heading South,” I loved it. I didn’t realize until the other day, though, that it kind of sounds like “My Sweet Annette” by @drivebytruckers.

Thanks to @megan9874 for this week’s #WYEPStretchOrCatch selections!
Lemme know what you think!
When I first heard “Ghosts” by @springsteen, I knew I’d heard that riff before. He even starts the song with the line, “I hear the sound of your guitar…”
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) April 9, 2021
The phrasing on that guitar part reminds me of “Free Fallin’” by the late, great @tompetty.
Right?#WYEPStretchOrCatch
You ever have the inexplicable urge to start singing “Born To Be Wild?”
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) April 2, 2021

I became a big @HAIMtheband fan this past year, but I never really got into Lou Reed.
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) March 26, 2021

Whatcha think?#WYEPStretchOrCatch
Cornershop sounded otherworldly to me when I heard them as a kid back in 1997. “Brimful of Asha” had that kind of riff that I knew would just stick with me (plus bosoms 😂).
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) March 19, 2021
When I first heard “Peach Fuzz” by @Caamp, I was instantly transported.
Am I crazy?#WYEPStretchOrCatch
I’ll never forget when I asked my guitar teacher to help me figure out “Brain Stew” by @GreenDay. He was outraged that they stole the riff from @chicagotheband’s “26 or 6 to 4.”
— Joey Spehar (@MorningJoey) February 19, 2021
I like em both a whole lot.
Vote now and hear them both on #WYEPStretchOrCatch.
