WYEP’s Stretch or Catch presents two popular songs that have a similar sound. You can decide if it’s a stretch or if it’s a catch and vote each week on Twitter. Hear the songs Friday mornings around 8:20 a.m. on the Morning Mix.

When I first head Zach Bryan’s “Heading South,” I loved it. I didn’t realize until the other day, though, that it kind of sounds like “My Sweet Annette” by @drivebytruckers.

When I first heard “Ghosts” by @springsteen, I knew I’d heard that riff before. He even starts the song with the line, “I hear the sound of your guitar…”

The phrasing on that guitar part reminds me of “Free Fallin’” by the late, great @tompetty.

I became a big @HAIMtheband fan this past year, but I never really got into Lou Reed.

I was struck when I first heard the HAIM song “Summer Girl.” It took about 30 seconds for me to realize it sounded kinda like Lou’s “Walk On The Wild Side.”

Cornershop sounded otherworldly to me when I heard them as a kid back in 1997. “Brimful of Asha” had that kind of riff that I knew would just stick with me (plus bosoms 😂).

When I first heard “Peach Fuzz” by @Caamp, I was instantly transported.

I’ll never forget when I asked my guitar teacher to help me figure out “Brain Stew” by @GreenDay. He was outraged that they stole the riff from @chicagotheband’s “26 or 6 to 4.”

I like em both a whole lot.
