Slide into the experimental blues and folk-type storytelling of Benjamin Booker's "Show and Tell," get into your feelings with Japanese Breakfast's "Orlando in Love," and feel the energy of The Cure's "All I Ever Am" — here's what's new in WYEP's rotation this week.
Benjamin Booker, "Show and Tell"
It's been seven years since Benjamin Booker's last effort. The New Orleans musician is back with "Show and Tell" The song slides between cosmic soul, experimental blues, and a folk-type of storytelling.
Japanese Breakfast, "Orlando in Love"
"Orlando in Love" is the lead single from the album, "For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)." Lead singer Michelle Zauner takes a different approach from the band's earlier sound with a delicate approach that is both lush and a little on the sad and emotional side
Birdtalker, "Season of Charade"
The Nashville band has returned with what can only be described as a George Harrison-inspired rocker in "Season of Charade." Their new album "All Means, No End has just been released."
Sunny War, "Cry Baby" feat. Valerie June
The first thing that caught my ear on "Cry Baby" is Sunny War sounding a lot like Chrissie Hynde. Sunny War has expanded her sound sonically to something that will fit a larger band, while remaining true to her roots of folk music meets punk. She wrote this song with Valerie June in mind, who joins her on the track. "Armageddon in a Summer Dress" is the new album out Feb. 21.
The Cure, "All I Ever Am"
This album cut has an excellent instrumental build to a song with energy and distorted guitars, which lyrically deals with the difficulty of living presently, while grappling with past decisions and memory. A trademark classic song from The Cure, showing how truly relevant they are in 2025.
