The Cure were chosen in 2019 by The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio to be inducted into the historic venue. They formed in 1976, but dominated the “Alternative Rock” airwaves in the 80’s and 90’s to become one of the first Alternative bands to find mainstream success through post-punk, goth rock and alternative sounds, led by Robert Smith’s dark, introspective, and mysterious lyrics.
Having merged catchy pop grooves with goth and shoegaze styles, The Cure have influenced superstars such as Nine Inch Nails, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Blur, and Phoebe Bridgers. The band has been touring off-and-on since their Rock Hall induction, but released their first album of new material in 16 years in 2024, “Songs Of A Lost World.” The album has been well- received by fans and critical rave reviews.
On Tuesday, Jan. 14, we'll feature one song per hour from The Cure throughout the day, as well as an hour-long special of the band beginning at 7 p.m., hosted by WYEP's Kyle Smith.
