Rosemary’s Annual Halloween Show

October 25, 2021

Tune in Friday, Oct. 29 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Every year I have the fun of putting together WYEP’s annual Halloween Show, with its mix of novelty songs for Halloween, as well as songs that fit the atmosphere of the season. There’s a list of favorites that play every year: Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London,” Bobby “Boris” Pickett’s “Monster Mash.” They’re matched by the campy “Time Warp” from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the hilarious “Nightmare On My Street” from DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (yes, Will Smith), and Donald Glover and Tracy Morgan’s “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah.”

But many of the songs are more atmospheric in nature; Sea Wolf’s “Leaves in the River” captures a mournful Halloween encounter by two lonely people, while Coldplay’s “Cemeteries of London” wrap a religious veil over the haunted holiday. Brandi Carlile’s “Mama Werewolf” is a mother’s lament.

Also included in the festivities you’ll find tidbits from some of our favorite horror movies, and tales from Pittsburghers sharing favorite memories. Light some candles, carve the pumpkins, and please join me for four hours of Halloween fun on WYEP!
