Hellbender Ball: The Return of Hellbender!

Pittsburgh’s Best Halloween Party takes over The Thunderbird Music Hall on October 22nd, 2022 as a new set of Pittsburgh musicians joins the Hellbender in an epic concert that is sure to rock your face off!

What the hell is a Hellbender?

Of all the creatures that call the Earth home, few are as strange and fascinating as the Eastern Hellbender salamander. Also known as the ‘devil dog’ or ‘snot otter’, Pennsylvania’s state amphibian can grow to over two feet in length, making it one of the largest salamanders in the world. Hellbenders are nocturnal predators that prefer cold, clear, swift-running rivers and streams where they hunt for crayfish and other small aquatic animals.

They have a unique appearance, with wrinkled skin and beady eyes that make them look like something straight out of a horror movie. In fact, their eerie appearance has led to many myths and legends about these creatures. Whatever the truth may be, there is no denying that Hellbenders are one of the most curious and intriguing creatures on the planet.

Ok, so what’s The Hellbender Ball?

The Hellbender Ball is a live music costume party where Pittsburgh bands transform into some of music’s most popular artists, impersonating and playing their biggest hits!

The Hellbender Ball is named after the Eastern Hellbender, a nocturnal salamander that was recently designated as Pennsylvania’s state amphibian. Like Halloween partygoers, hellbenders become active after dark to seek refreshment and companionship.
