Vieux Farka Touré
The Andy Warhol Museum
Get TicketsWe welcome Malian singer and guitarist, Vieux Farka Touré. The son of Grammy-winning musician Ali Farka Touré, Vieux’s globally-minded music blends traditional African melodies and instrumentation with modern electric guitar and rock structures. His 2017 release, Samba (meaning second son in his native Songhai) was recorded in front of a live studio audience in Woodstock, New York. Last year, Vieux collaborated with Houston-based psych-rock band Khruangbin on the album Ali, which reimagines a selection of songs by his father, Ali Farka Touré. And he also released Les Racines, which translates as ‘the roots’ and represents a deep reconnection with the Songhai music of Northern Mali. DJ Pandemic Pete opens the evening.
