2007 Top Local Artists

  1. Ben Hardt and His Symphony s/t
Ben Hardt stormed onto the local scene last summer with his solo debut that features a full rock band and a string quartet. The contrast of Ben’s strong, abrasive vocals against the strings is something mighty fine. CH

  2. Lohio Sleeping Stereo
Lohio has the best up and coming indie players in town. Greg Dutton is their fearless leader with singing and songwriting duties on Sleeping Stereo. Comparisons to Wilco can commence, but these boys bring something special to the table. Wilco has never been this whimsical and fancy free. CH

  3. New Invisible Joy Kontakt
After three (very long) years away from the limelight, New Invisible Joy returns with Kontakt. The band sounds as lush and smooth as ever with additional layers of textural keyboards (provided by guitarist, Mike Gaydos). This band is sounding different than before, but fans will appreciate the additions. CH

  4. Boca Chica Transform into Beasts
Hallie Pritts and the rest of Boca Chica return with their delicate indie-folk on Beasts. The themes and music on this album are darker—Hallie’s certainly not afraid to go there. This record will please fans of Richard Buckner, The Be Good Tanyas and Iron and Wine. CH

  5. Paul Luc The Shelly Street Anthems
Paul Luc is a fresh new face on the scene in Pittsburgh. His voice straddles a thin line between the silky tones of James Blunt and the raspy Ray Lamontagne. Any teenaged girl would love this guy—he sounds like a real prince. CH
