Devilish Merry

DEVILISH MERRY provides the music for caller Bob Frederking at the Pittsburgh Contra Dance, Friday, Aug. 16 from 8-11 p.m. at Wightman School, 5604 Solway St., Pittsburgh. Admission is $10 adult, $7 student; no experience or partner needed.

Contra Dance is a series of lively line dance and figure patterns from 1800s’ British Isles folk roots, and it’s one of the few social dance forms where by the end of the evening you are likely to have danced with everyone. As practiced by the sociable group at Wightman School, it’s a night of meeting people and making new friends set to music.

Devilish Merry is a Pittsburgh quintet featuring fiddle, banjo, tinwhistle, hammered and fretted dulcimer, producing a layered, driving sound that improvises on traditional and contemporary forms of Appalachian and Celtic music.
