Education and Community Engagement
Our Education and Community Engagement Team actively delivers on WYEP’s mission to inspire our community with diverse music and vibrant ideas. We seek to engage people of all ages in opportunities to delve into enriching experiences of music and media creation, appreciation and learning. The programs and workshops we organize appeal to people of all ages, from young children to adults. Getting youth excited about music and self-expression is an important mission of our department. For young children, we’ve developed ZooBeats, an interactive sound and music experience where chidren ages 2 through 5 play with sounds and song creation. Fill out the webform to rent ZooBeats. We also partner with Music Together to offer a music exploration class for toddlers and their caretakers. This year, our mobile Sound Vision curriculum will be offered throughout Propel Charter Schools in their elementary and middle schools. This class teaches students music appreciation, audio editing and self-expression. Reimagine Media is a program for high school students where teens choose the projects. The participants curate an entertainment media blog and learn to produce media in a variety of formats. Our education department also offers programming for adults. The adult classes cover topics in the music and radio industries. Knowledgeable 91.3fm WYEP and 90.5fm WESA staff members share their expertise in short, in-depth classes which have covered topics from the v-disc to the Beatles to radio dramas. If you've ever wanted to work at a radio station, come intern at 91.3fm WYEP. Go to our internship options page and start off your media and communications career here.
