The 9:13 Buzz with Patrick Bowman

Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of our most trusted music aficionados joins me (Cindy Howes) on the Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Patrick Bowman!

In case you missed, it here's what Patrick played:

Broncho, "Fantasy Boys" - Broncho's 2014 second album, Just Enough Hip to Be Woman, was one of my favorite records of that year. With a snotty sneer, the Oklahoma group effortlessly put together track after track of throwback power pop that was the best guitar-based indie rock I'd hear in quite some time. They are readying their third LP Double Vanity on Dine Alone Records, dropping May 27th, and just released the single "Fantasy Boys" which sounds like a shoegaze love song sung from the floor of a dirtbag motel after a three day bender. It's pretty obvious these guys are picking up right where they left off.

ANOHNI, "Drone Bomb Me" - ANOHNI, formerly known as Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons, just relased her solo record HOPELESSNESS on May 6th. The album itself is a staggering work emotionally resonate protest music, filtered through sweeping ballads and dancefloor beats that will surely be at the top of numerous year end lists in 2016. "Drone Bomb Me" is the devastating track one produced by it-electronic musicians Hudson Mohawke and Oneohtrix Point Never, and ANOHNI describes it as such: “It’s a love song from the perspective of a girl in Afghanistan, say a 9-year-old girl whose family’s been killed by a drone bomb,…She is kind of looking up at the sky and she’s gotten herself to a place where she just wants to be killed by a drone bomb too.”
