The 9:13 Buzz with Justin Jacobs

Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of our most trusted music aficionados joins me (Cindy Howes) on the Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Justin Jacobs

In case you missed it, here's what Justin played (commentary by JJ):

Timber Timbre, "Sewer Blues" - The dudes in Timber Timbre are absolute masters at creating a mood. The band began by releasing ghostly folk music, then graduated to David Lynch-ian, sax-driven rock with their last record. Now, they've moved on to a more urban, gritty feel—their latest album, the upcoming "Sincerely, Future Pollution", has all the icy synths of a dark, 1980's horror movie. The first single, "Sewer Blues," is far and away the most rocking cut on the album. If you like the "Stranger Things" soundtrack, this album will be your new obsession.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, "Nuclear Fusion" - This young, Australian band has been blasting out totally psyched-out rock 'n' roll for the past few years, and their upcoming record, "Flying Microtonal Banana," is their finest hour yet. The guys explore 'microtonal playing' on this album, meaning the notes in between the notes we're used to hearing in pop music. The result is an impressively colorful, frantic album of blissed out weirdo rock. Let your freak flag fly high with the King.
