WYEP Listener Roundtable: R.E.M.'s Lifes Rich Pageant
For the 30th anniversary of R.E.M.'s important album Lifes Rich Pageant, WYEP held a Listener Roundtable to discuss the album's songs and its legacy. Moderated by WYEP's Mike Sauter, the panel discussed topics ranging from Mike Mills' singing as the "secret weapon" of the band, to bad production choices in music as a whole in the 1980s and R.E.M.'s avoidance of that sound, to their idiosyncratic approach to their text and packaging (like officially eshewing an apostrophe in Lifes Rich Pageant's title).
Our panel of listeners were Steve Seel, a lawyer and a guitarist who has been in a number of local bands (including A.T.S. and The Reckoning, an R.E.M. tribute band) and Chris Fletcher, who does marketing for a software company and has been a volunteer DJ for WYEP.
