Bike to Feed Families

In celebration of National Hunger Action Month in September, 91.3 WYEP is partnering with Bike to Feed FamiliesCarnegie Science Center and Dollar Bank to collect food donations for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank as part of a Bike to Feed Families event.

Beginning Monday, September 9 and running through Friday, October 4, Carnegie Science Center will accept non-perishable food donations in their lobby area. Donations can be dropped off anytime during regular business hours between September 9 – October 4.

On Saturday, September 28th, Carnegie Science Center will offer a $2 off general admission discount to each person bringing a food donation the Carnegie Science Center on that day.

Suggested donations:
     High fiber cereal
     Canned Beans
     Canned Tuna & Salmon in Water
     Canned Vegetables
     Toilet Tissue
       No glass, please!  

On Saturday, October 5 at 10am, as part of Carnegie Science’s Center’s BIKES: Science on Two Wheels exhibit, community volunteers will bike all donations received at Carnegie Science Center 12.5 miles to the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank’s Duquesne location.

All volunteer riders will receive a free admission voucher from the Carnegie Science Center as a thank you for your good deed. Riders must be present on Saturday, October 5th to qualify.

Ride Instructions:

Bring your panniers or attach your racks or trailers - volunteer bikers will load-up with items collected at the Science Center and will travel approximately 12.5 miles (mostly on trail, in a leisurely group pace good for beginners) to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank in Duquesne.

After unloading, riders will return together to the Carnegie Science Center. (for a total round trip of 25 miles)

Special performances by Attack Theatre. Hands-on craft activities with glass artist Daviea Davis, Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse and the recycle art creation station!  Story-telling, music and more! There's even a juggler!

Food for sale by Pittsburgh Taco Truck, Nakama, Randita's and Street Foods. 

International shopping village includes Ten Thousand Villages, Friends of Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti, and right Kids Uganda. Local honey from McCormack Apiary, and photographs from noted photojournalist Lynn Johnson.

A series of 5 Saturday classes

Fall is in the air and nature points the way. Paint the cover of a Nature Book you will create. Discover a way to make a Print of fall leaves and Draw a landscape. Continue your exploration of art in nature with Sculpting an element of life in clay. Put it all together for a fun five weeks of art and the great outdoors. Class times: 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Wheel Thrown Pottery for Children and Adults 
Children ages 9 to 12; Adult class: age 13 and older
Satrudays: October 5, 12, 19, 26, and Nov. 2

Learn wheel-thrown pottery skills, trimming, and glazing. Each student will completel a bowl shape, and cup shake as well as apply handles and glaze coloring. 
Class time: children noon- 2 p.m.; adults 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

2013 Young Playwrights Festival

The festival will feature six one-act plays written by select middle and high school playwrights from Western Pennsylvania. The annual festival showcases professional productions of six winning scripts chosen from 200 Young Playwrights Contest submissions. Subjects tackled range from teen depression to consumerism, with poignant moments of nostalgia and flashback woven throughout.

PICT Plays with Mystery and Mayhem: Annual Gala

Enjoy delicious cocktails and hors d’oeuvre, dinner, the company of PICT Theatre actors and directors. At our after party, dance to music spun by a D.J., dine on a late-night sweet and salty buffet and celebrate theatre through an award given to the supporter that attends in the best Sherlock Holmes themed costume.

The event has three phases:

The Award Reception features two inaugural awards, the Anne D. Mullaney Inspiration Award, and the Chosky-Rauh Theatre Award. Guests will enjoy sparkling wine, cocktails and delicious hors d’oeuvre, as well as an opportunity to peruse the silent auction items;

The Dinner Party features a seated dinner and strolling dessert in the company of PICT actors and directors and, throughout the evening, the opportunity to support PICT by purchasing both Silent and Live Auction packages donated by PICT Theatre supporters.

The Dance Party at which guests will dance to the modern sounds of a D.J. and enjoy a late-night sweet and salty buffet.  At the Dance Party, a cash award will be given to the person wearing the best Sherlock Holmes themed costume.

Event dress is cocktail attire or costume, with a Sherlock Holmes theme.  To assist our guests with their costumes, PICT Theatre has partnered with Costume World to provide high-quality costumes for those that would like to take part in this way.
